Statamic is a database free CMS that is a pleasure to code templates for and easy for Clients to use for creating, editing and updating web site content. Statamic is a mature CMS with the original release in June 2012 it has now been around for more than 3 years.

I like to use Statamic for smaller sites that don't need all the power of a CMS like ExpressionEngine but still need flexibility and ease of use.

End User Benefits (clients)

  • Intuitive easy to use control panel
  • Responsive control panel - easily update content with your mobile device
  • Fast load times - no database = faster page loads for both the front end and the control panel
  • Secure - because Statamic doesn't use a database like most CMSs there is zero risk for a mysql injection attack on the site

Developer Benefits

  • Multi Environment friendly - super easy to work locally and then have your client preview work on a staging site before pushing to the live site
  • Version Control - no more hassles with figuring out how to sync the database. All settings are stored in YAML files - push the files and the live site reflects those changes.
  • When clients update content you can easily add the content to version control by copying the markdown files locally
  • Templating is simple and intuitive - there is no need to know php (I'm looking at you WordPress)
  • Documentation - well written and easy to understand
  • Community - Are you stuck or not sure how to approach something the community will help you out. Don't forget to check out the Slack Channel.
  • A robust mature marketplace for third party addons (commercial and free): Add-on Stash.
  • Commercially supported. You buy a license and the creators of Statamic provide support for you.
